Smart Backpacking Tip - Wear Good Shoes

As anyone even remotely familiar with backpacking probably knows, having the proper footwear can make all the difference during your travels. Because of this, it is very important to seriously think about which shoes to bring and which to leave at home.

Taking along a comfortable pair of walking shoes is always recommended, as there is often a lot of walking during backpacking trips. Make sure that you wear in any shoes before your backpacking adventure, however, because the last thing you want to have is sore feet if you are going to be doing a lot of walking around.

Depending on your plans, you may also wish to take along a sturdy pair of hiking boots if you will be crossing large areas of rough terrain. Be sure to consider whether or not you really need a pair of hiking boots during your trip, as this type of footwear will take up a lot of space and can be quite heavy. If possible, bring the lightest pair of quality hiking boots you can find.

A pair of quality sandals also makes for an excellent addition during many backpacking trips. Also, because sandals are lightweight and small in size, they won’t take up much room in your pack. Just be aware that sandals won’t provide the same amount of ankle support as other forms of footwear, nor will they offer much protection from hazards like rocks or sticks.

Because having the proper type of footwear is such an important part of backpacking, it is essential that you bring the right kinds along with you on your trip. Just be sure to seriously consider the space requirement, weight, and practicality for each pair of shoes you plan to bring, before adding them to your pack.

Happy & safe travels ahead!
