Long flights can feel endless if you find yourself with nothing to do but twiddle your thumbs. To help pass the time, consider trying these five entertaining activities that can make even the longest of flights feel a little more bearable.
1. Listen to music.
A pair of headphones and a fully charged MP3 player can provide you with hours upon hours of entertainment. Listening to music can also help you drown out the sounds of the engine or those over-excited children sitting two rows behind you.
2. Read a book.
If you want to really escape from the world of flying, why not lose yourself in a good book? Though a book or two will easily fit into your carry-on bag, consider bringing an e-reader if you plan on reading several books during your travels to help lighten the load.
3. Watch an in-flight movie.
Many flights, especially the longer ones, provide free in-flight movies. Some even provide quite a large selection to choose from. So long as your flight offers the service, simply plug in a set of headphones and be entertained for the next couple of hours.
4. Work your way through a puzzle book.
Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and logic problems are excellent time wasters when you're traveling to far-off destinations. Just remember to also bring along a pencil or pen if you're planning to entertain yourself with a puzzle book during your next flight.
5. Strike up a conversation.
Time can seemingly fly by when you're in the middle of an interesting conversation. If you're flying solo, however, it can be a bit harder to get the ball rolling. To assess your neighbor's willingness to converse, start off with some small talk and see where it leads.
Boredom is an all-too-common feeling during long-flight travel. If you find yourself bored during your next flight, don't just twiddle your thumbs. Try listening to some music, reading a book, watching a movie, doing some puzzles, or enjoying a conversation instead.
